These beautiful and bright photo's are made by James Stokes, one of the best Interior photographers I have met so far. James is working for all the big interior titles but that isn't the only thing. I also love the way he makes portraits. We met last year on the plane from Milan to Amsterdam after the Salone del Mobile and since then we are making plans to do some cool things together (soon more about that).
This Dutch home with its somewhat International image (due to the pool, it could easily be in South-Africa or Australia, although the orange hottub reveals its real location) has such a great feel to it. I asked a couple of questions to James about this photoshoot:
Did you order some sunshine for this shoot, or were you enormously lucky?
"I used to get a bit stressed about the weather before shoots but over time I realised that worrying never changes anything, now I’m much more relaxed about it all. Actually heavy sun can cause as many problems as a grey day, it can create far too much contrast. Anyway it was a lucky shoot!"
What were the challenges in this shoot? If there were any?
"The challenge with every interior is to build up a logical story of of how the house fits together. Some houses are easier than others but this one was quite straightforward. Its important to see the series from the reader’s perspective"
What was the best part of this gorgeous house?
"Got to be the pool every time. The owners of the house try to swim as much of the year as possible!!"
